Is the price rise a big deal?
Bottom line: YES – it is.
With an increase in prices, uSwitch claimed that landlines are still necessary for many broadband connections and there are still people who rely on their home phone.
uSwitch have commented that customers on B.T’s basic package who make two five-minute daytime calls each day would see their monthly bill jump from £28.52 a year ago to £35.78 once B.T’s new fees take effect.
Who are the most affected?
As highlighted by the BBC, all customers will be facing a squeeze – even more so for customers on B.T’s popular Anytime package.
- UK landline calls will go up from 7.6p a minute to 7.95p a minute.
- Evening UK calls will go up from 1p a minute to 1.05p a minute.
- Standard Line Rental goes up from £13.90 to £14.60 a month.
- Unlimited Anytime Plan goes up from £4.70 to £4.90 a month
The Sun has discussed that the “elderly or less internet -savvy households hardest.”
Judging from the table from the Sun, the price of calls from a B.T. line compared to other main providers are certainly higher since B.T, the Standard Line Rental package offering doesn’t offer any weekend or evening calls and daytime calls will increase in December.
If prices are rising what can you do?
uSwitch has given the following advice:
“The best advice to keep bills down is to look at when you make the most phone calls and make sure that you are on a calling plan that fits this picture. It could be well worth moving to a deal that offers free evening and weekend calls, or for those at home all day, free ‘anytime’ calls.”
